After 6 played minutes, Hartlepool AFC's Ubaldo Vasques shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Simão Regalado came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Hartlepool AFC reached it. Afonso Pereira could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 11th minute of the match, but Zé Da Costa made a huge save. The crowd rose to their feet as Howden United's Toni Cunha slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Zé Da Costa. That made the score 1-0 after 13 minutes of play. Heitor Areosa 's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Zé Da Costa read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 17th minute of play. Afonso Pereira could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 19th minute of the match, but Zé Da Costa made a huge save. After having played for 20 minutes, Heitor Areosa managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Howden United's supporters crossed their fingers, but Heitor Areosa was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Luís Bouça , 24 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The wind increased when Flavio Almeida made the kick off in the second half. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Flavio Almeida in the 53rd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Simão Regalado prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Flavio Almeida fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 54th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Simão Regalado having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 61st minute, Flavio Almeida managed to get in a good position for a shot. Hartlepool AFC's supporters rose to their feet, but Flavio Almeida was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Simão Regalado breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Afonso Pereira ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 92ndth minute of the game Hector Simões who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Howden United's Simão Regalado was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. 92 minutes into the game, Toni Cunha was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Howden United's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Hartlepool AFC the free kick.
