Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Hélio Moco in the 17th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Carlos Serineu prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Carlos Serineu stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Heitor Quilempan's shot from short distance in the 19th minute. In the 24th match minute, Sutton in Ashfield was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Balduíno Matta to maneuver through the defense. Carlos Serineu took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Heitor Quilempan, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Pedro Lourenço's late challenge caught a Braunton's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Pedro Lourenço helped the player get up and apologised. After 34 played minutes Sutton in Ashfield got a freekick which was hit by Pedro Lourenço. The audience thought a goal was coming when Edmundo Chafes got free with Emílio Lando in the 35th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Teta Pedrosa received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 36th minute. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.

Cláudio Fontão hit a great freekick 63 minutes into the match. Hélio Moco sent away a hard shot on goal in the 66th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. One of Sutton in Ashfield:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Braunton:s goal. In the 69th minute there was a penalty for Braunton. Carlos Serineu came out of the goal in the 77th minute to try and stop a shot by Sutton in Ashfield's Hélio Moco. But to his dismay, Hélio Moco quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-2. Heitor Quilempan's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Carlos Serineu read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 82nd minute of play.
