A collision led to Malvern getting a freekick after 12 minutes play. Lopo Godinho hit a great ball. With a little luck, Malvern's Maurício Areosa got control of the ball when Tozé Varanda tried to sneak it across the goal line. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Luís Areosa in the 15th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Maurício Areosa saved Malvern from getting behind. In the 18th minute, Sagrada Esperança's Luís Areosa dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 1-0. After a rather tough play, Malvern's Lopo Godinho got a free kick in the 26th minute. Henrique Regalado shot from long distance in the 27th minute, but Maurício Areosa was prepared and stopped the ball at the left post. The supporters of Sagrada Esperança booed when Malvern was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 27 match minutes in a wonderful position. Lopo Godinho didn't get a good kick on the ball. Maurício Areosa came out of the goal in the 28th minute to try and stop a shot by Sagrada Esperança's Tozé Varanda. But to his dismay, Tozé Varanda quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-0. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 31st minute of the game. One of Sagrada Esperança:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Malvern:s goal. David Akwa had in the 34thth minute some difficulties stopping Rogério Simões 's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. 36 minutes into the match, Sagrada Esperança's goal looked a bit too open when Pedro Fontão came free, but David Akwa reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Tozé Varanda struck a weak shot in the 42nd minute. Maurício Areosa didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Sagrada Esperança. Miguel Malafaia hit a great freekick 46 minutes into the match. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Pedro Fontão made a kick off. Pedro Fontão received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 52nd minute. David Akwa tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 57th minute, Tozé Varanda ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Maurício Areosa was frozen by the shot and now it was 3-0. If Tozé Varanda had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 61st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Edmundo Pegacho during the 62nd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 62nd match minute, Malvern was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Edmundo Pegacho to maneuver through the defense. When the match had been going on for 82 minutes, Malvern's Rogério Simões got an opportunity to shoot a penalty. He stayed cool and waited for the goalkeeper to move, before he confidently shot the ball into the goal, to the left of David Akwa. The audience was convinced that Pedro Fontão 's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but David Akwa was relentless in the 89th minute of the game. 90 minutes into the game, Tozé Varanda cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 4-1. Maurício Areosa was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Pedro Fontão received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 95th minute. Malvern's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
