Maxwell Nunes showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Alfred Manyethela in the 8th minute of the match. 17 minutes into the game, David Thembe was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Vlakpan's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave FC Swartoup the free kick. The supporters of FC Swartoup booed when Vlakpan was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 17 match minutes in a wonderful position. David Thembe didn't get a good kick on the ball. Sizwe Nomvete hit a great freekick 27 minutes into the match. In the 28th minute Lindo Mabele shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Takalani Mbule saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 29thth minute of the game David Thembe who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but FC Swartoup's Takalani Mbule was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Thami Kerns succeeded in the game's 32nd minute to shoot an unreachable shot under the crossbar and scored - 0-1. FC Swartoup's Sizwe Nomvete suffered a concussion in the 35th minute, after a hard challenge, and had to leave the field. After a rather tough play, Vlakpan's David Thembe got a free kick in the 37th minute. 38 minutes into the match, FC Swartoup's Norman Kekana broke free and took a long shot that unfortunately flew wide. A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. After a defensive mix-up in FC Swartoup's zone, Mawetu Kubheka stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Takalani Mbule came out of the goal and Mawetu Kubheka tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 43rd minute, Thami Kerns made a precise shot to the right of Maxwell Nunes. Vlakpan's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-2. Alfred Manyethela received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 46th minute. Maxwell Nunes tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Mawetu Kubheka stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In a very dangerous position, a player in Vlakpan fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 52nd minute. Penalty! Norman Kekana shot the penalty kick right outside the post. With a little luck, Vlakpan's Maxwell Nunes got control of the ball when Alfred Manyethela tried to sneak it across the goal line. FC Swartoup's Alfred Manyethela got a good chance for a goal in the 56th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Mawetu Kubheka received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 59th minute. Takalani Mbule tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Mawetu Kubheka's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Takalani Mbule read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 63rd minute of play. In the 70th minute, Mawetu Kubheka left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Vlakpan fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-2. If Mawetu Kubheka had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 77th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. The audience thought a goal was coming when Alfred Manyethela got free with Maxwell Nunes in the 80th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After a defensive mix-up in FC Swartoup's zone, Mawetu Kubheka stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing FC Swartoup would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
