Grabanu's Octav Turbatu played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Albert Panciu in the 4th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Bogdan Cutieru in the 13th minute of play forced Steaua Bucuresti's goalkeeper Doru Ispir to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Constantin Potra got free with Doru Ispir in the 23rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Octav Turbatu showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Albert Panciu, who was totally free with the ball in the 25th minute. The supporters of Grabanu booed when Steaua Bucuresti was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 27 match minutes in a wonderful position. Emanuel Panaitescu didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 30th minute Albert Panciu shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Octav Turbatu saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 33 minutes into the match, Grabanu's goal looked a bit too open when Albert Panciu came free, but Octav Turbatu reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. With an all-out effort, Grabanu's Doru Ispir threw himself towards the right post 42 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Vintilă Suciu, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Albert Panciu scored 0-1 in the 44th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Octav Turbatu, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. The Grabanu players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Steaua Bucuresti were winning 0-1.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Albert Panciu stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Octav Turbatu didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Dan Mereuță went, in the 54th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-2 was the resulting score. After a defensive mix-up in Steaua Bucuresti's zone, Bogdan Cutieru stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Doru Ispir came out of the goal and Bogdan Cutieru tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Niculae Onișoru in the 64th minute of play forced Steaua Bucuresti's goalkeeper Doru Ispir to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After some careless play in the Steaua Bucuresti defense, Nicu Oprița kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Doru Ispir. The Steaua Bucuresti fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Doru Ispir should have stopped the shot. After 69 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Grabanu! The goalkeeper, Octav Turbatu, was totally fooled by Steaua Bucuresti's Toader Galușcă, who 71 minutes into the game made a penalty shot that went in on the goalkeeper's left side. Octav Turbatu didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Dan Mereuță went, in the 74th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-4 was the resulting score. Nicu Oprița sent away a hard shot on goal in the 79th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 81 minutes into the match, Steaua Bucuresti's goal looked a bit too open when Niculae Onișoru came free, but Doru Ispir reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Niculae Onișoru fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 83rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Doru Ispir having to interfere. Doru Ispir showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Nicu Oprița in the 84th minute of the match. 92 minutes into the game, George Zburliş was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Grabanu's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Steaua Bucuresti the free kick. A collision led to Grabanu getting a freekick after 92 minutes play. George Zburliş hit a great ball. 94 minutes into the game, Niculae Onișoru cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-4. Doru Ispir was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. In the 98th minute, Dan Mereuță hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Steaua Bucuresti eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
