Spectators: 7491 (Terracing: 5619, Seating: 1723, VIP seats: 149) It was fairly windy and cold on the field when Corneliu Zbârlea kicked off to start the match. Corneliu Zbârlea fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 8th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Anton Cerghizan having to interfere. Costel Şerban received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 10th minute. Anton Cerghizan tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After 11 played minutes AC MILAN got a freekick which was hit by Irinel Uncu. Costel Şerban might have been able to make a better finish in the 13th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Anton Cerghizan. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Costel Şerban ran back to his position shaking his head. Ionică Cosariu's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Eugen Răduțu read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 19th minute of play. Anton Cerghizan showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Corneliu Zbârlea, who was totally free with the ball in the 23rd minute. A collision led to AC MILAN getting a freekick after 24 minutes play. Gigi Brânzaș hit a great ball. Ionică Cosariu recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 29th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Costel Şerban struck a weak shot in the 35th minute. Anton Cerghizan didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Borussia Dortmund. After having played for 41 minutes, Basarab Costăchescu managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Borussia Dortmund's supporters crossed their fingers, but Basarab Costăchescu was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Anton Cerghizan made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Costel Şerban in the 42nd minute of play. Ionică Cosariu received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 45th minute. Eugen Răduțu tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Ionică Cosariu sent away a hard shot on goal in the 48th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance.

Eugen Răduțu came out of the goal in the 54th minute to try and stop a shot by AC MILAN's Ionică Cosariu. But to his dismay, Ionică Cosariu quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-0. In the 60th minute, Costel Şerban fired away a shot on goal. He put a little to much spin on the ball and sent it just wide of the right post. After a defensive mix-up in AC MILAN's zone, Costel Şerban stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Anton Cerghizan came out of the goal and Costel Şerban tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 73rd minute Corneliu Zbârlea shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Anton Cerghizan saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The crowd rose to their feet as Borussia Dortmund's Corneliu Zbârlea slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Anton Cerghizan. That made the score 1-1 after 74 minutes of play. Costel Şerban sent away a hard shot on goal in the 77th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 89th minute, Ionică Cosariu got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. A collision led to AC MILAN getting a freekick after 94 minutes play. Gigi Brânzaș hit a great ball. Basarab Costăchescu received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 96th minute. Anton Cerghizan tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The Borussia Dortmund supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Borussia Dortmund would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
