Dragonul's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. When Florin Zgârcu, who was free, got the in front of the goal in the 10 minute he wasn't focused and tipped the ball just over the goal. The Horia Filipașcu was delighted since the ball would have got in if it had gone under the crossbar. Mihai Bălțăteanu fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 12th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Manole Hârlab having to interfere. In the 14th minute, Virgil Teodorescu hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Dragonul's Gheorghe Condescu got a good chance for a goal in the 18th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The attack was good, but when Florin Zgârcu in the 20th minute was about to shoot he didn't kick quite good enough and the ball went high over goal. 22 minutes into the match, Florin Zgârcu notched a goal, 0-1, to the right of Republica Ploiești's Horia Filipașcu. Horia Filipașcu was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. After having played for 37 minutes, Mihai Bălțăteanu managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Republica Ploiești's supporters crossed their fingers, but Mihai Bălțăteanu was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal.
When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Florin Zgârcu made a kick off. Gheorghe Condescu received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 51st minute. Horia Filipașcu tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 56th minute the ball was on its way in behind Dragonul's goalkeeper Manole Hârlab, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. With his leg Horia Filipașcu managed to avoid a goal in the 58thth minute, when Dragonul's Gheorghe Condescu fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. In the 59th match minute, Dragonul was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Viorel Simionescu to maneuver through the defense. Manole Hârlab made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Mihai Bălțăteanu in the 60th minute of play. Dragonul's Manole Hârlab played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Virgil Teodorescu in the 62nd minute of play. Mihai Bălțăteanu received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 64th minute. Manole Hârlab tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Republica Ploiești's Virgil Teodorescu got a good chance for a goal in the 65th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 67th minute Mihai Bălțăteanu shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Manole Hârlab saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in Dragonul's zone, Virgil Teodorescu stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Manole Hârlab came out of the goal and Virgil Teodorescu tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Virgil Teodorescu in the 81st minute of play forced Dragonul's goalkeeper Manole Hârlab to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Mihai Bălțăteanu struck a weak shot in the 84th minute. Manole Hârlab didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Republica Ploiești. Manole Hârlab showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Mihai Bălțăteanu, who was totally free with the ball in the 86th minute. In the 90th minute, Viorel Simionescu hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Manole Hârlab took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Mihai Bălțăteanu, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side.
