The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After 9 played minutes FCDB got a freekick which was hit by David Caramarin. A hard shot by Dan Bosioc from long distance, 10 minutes into the match, got Aurelian Nicea's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. Virgil Barbălată showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Liviu Mercescu, who was totally free with the ball in the 12th minute. In the 13th minute the ball was on its way in behind Unirea Podu Iloaiei's goalkeeper Virgil Barbălată, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. 17 minutes into the match, Unirea Podu Iloaiei's goal looked a bit too open when Ernest Cioculescu came free, but Virgil Barbălată reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. David Caramarin hit a great freekick 18 minutes into the match. Dan Bosioc could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 21st minute of the match, but Aurelian Nicea made a huge save. 23 minutes into the match, Unirea Podu Iloaiei's goal looked a bit too open when Ernest Cioculescu came free, but Virgil Barbălată reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 24 minutes into the match, FCDB's goalkeeper Aurelian Nicea had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Ion Vulpe. After some fancy dribbling in the 26th minute, Nicodim Șeimeanu managed to get in a good position for a shot. Unirea Podu Iloaiei's supporters rose to their feet, but Nicodim Șeimeanu was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Aurelian Nicea breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. An unexpected shot in the 31st minute by Cezar Calomfir got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. A collision led to FCDB getting a freekick after 33 minutes play. Doru Neacșu hit a great ball. Virgil Barbălată made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ernest Cioculescu in the 35th minute of play. Dan Bosioc sent away a hard shot on goal in the 37th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Dan Bosioc received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 41st minute. Aurelian Nicea tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a rather tough play, Unirea Podu Iloaiei's Ion Vulpe got a free kick in the 47th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Liviu Mercescu in the 49th minute of play forced Unirea Podu Iloaiei's goalkeeper Virgil Barbălată to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

Ion Vulpe sent away a hard shot on goal in the 53rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The supporters of Unirea Podu Iloaiei booed when FCDB was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 60 match minutes in a wonderful position. David Caramarin didn't get a good kick on the ball. Virgil Barbălată took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ernest Cioculescu, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Nicodim Șeimeanu in the 63rd minute of play forced FCDB's goalkeeper Aurelian Nicea to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Aurelian Nicea made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cezar Calomfir in the 64th minute of play. 80 minutes into the game, Dan Bosioc cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 3-0. Aurelian Nicea was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. In the 83rd minute, Ion Vulpe ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Aurelian Nicea was frozen by the shot and now it was 4-0. Cezar Calomfir sent away a hard shot on goal in the 90th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Aurelian Nicea showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Nicodim Șeimeanu in the 92nd minute of the match. Aurelian Nicea showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cezar Calomfir, who was totally free with the ball in the 93rd minute. In the 94th minute, Ion Vulpe got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. There was no doubt that Unirea Podu Iloaiei were the better team. Unirea Podu Iloaiei's players enjoyed the ovations of the crowd after the victory.
