The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. An unexpectedly hard shot by Daniel Pantelimon in the 13th minute of play forced fc.zarnesti.brasov's goalkeeper Fabian Turcescu to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Fabian Turcescu made an important save on a dangerous shot by Nechifor Hurmuz in the 16th minute. The GLADIATORII fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Eduard Mudura should have stopped the shot. 25 minutes into the game, Nechifor Hurmuz recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Fabian Turcescu. Nechifor Hurmuz showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 1-2. Fabian Turcescu made a fantastic save in the 33rd minute, when Petre Bărbuceanu sent off a good shot on target. Thanks to some nice moves Petre Bărbuceanu could shoot a difficult shot in the 35th minute, which Fabian Turcescu however easily saved by the left post. 39 minutes into the match, fc.zarnesti.brasov's goalkeeper Fabian Turcescu had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Petre Bărbuceanu. Nechifor Hurmuz could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 41st minute of the match, but Fabian Turcescu made a huge save. Ivan Bălan might have been able to make a better finish in the 46th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Eduard Mudura. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Ivan Bălan ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 48th minute Ivan Bălan shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Eduard Mudura saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Gigi Râznicu during the 53rd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Gigi Râznicu hit a great freekick 53 minutes into the match.
