After 11 minutes, Hersteinn Freysson mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Blue Mountain State and the Oxford United F.C. players grew even worse after the yellow card. 15 minutes into the match, Blue Mountain State's goal looked a bit too open when Pertti Lahtinen came free, but Gervásio Castilho reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Aarto Pihlman scored 0-2 in the 22nd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Iikka Räsänen, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Aarto Pihlman in the 78th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Iikka Räsänen prevented the ball from getting in the gole. 79 minutes into the match, Elmer Meltoranta had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Iikka Räsänen. Oxford United F.C.'s manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Elmer Meltoranta was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-7. Elmer Meltoranta sent away a hard shot on goal in the 83rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 86 minutes into the match, Elmer Meltoranta had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Iikka Räsänen. Iikka Räsänen was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Aarto Pihlman showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 0-9 in the 91 minute of play. In the 98th minute of the match Jari Ylimäki shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Iikka Räsänen showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Blue Mountain State played a much better game than Oxford United F.C. and deserved their victory. The Oxford United F.C. players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
