Spectators: 6771 (Terracing: 5000, Seating: 1771, VIP seats: 0) The field was rather wet after several days of rain when Ale Karalahti took the kick off in the first half of the match. Tatu Laukkanen received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 4th minute. Petri Vanhatalo tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Keijo Pietikäinen's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Miro Pyhältö read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 7th minute of play. Keijo Pietikäinen recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 10th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Keijo Pietikäinen could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 12th minute of the match, but Miro Pyhältö made a huge save. When Tampere United's Jan Gustafsson in the 14th minute got a chance for a shot 14th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. Miro Pyhältö showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ale Karalahti in the 24th minute of the match. Paul Ilola hit a great freekick 28 minutes into the match. Keijo Pietikäinen took the ball and in the 31 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Miro Pyhältö. Miro Pyhältö dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-0. If Jaakoppi Tervonen had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 37th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a rather tough play, Tampere United's Risto Valjakka got a free kick in the 38th minute. Reima Hirvonen kicked well hit freekick during the 41st minute of the match.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Tatu Laukkanen to strike the kick off in the second half. Jaakoppi Tervonen charged in rather forcefully in the 51st minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Jaakoppi Tervonen the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 52nd match minute, AC Vaalimaa was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jaakoppi Tervonen to maneuver through the defense. Reima Hirvonen charged in rather forcefully in the 54th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. After some fancy dribbling in the 61st minute, Jan Gustafsson managed to get in a good position for a shot. Tampere United's supporters rose to their feet, but Jan Gustafsson was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Petri Vanhatalo breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. If Tatu Laukkanen had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 63rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Tatu Laukkanen sent away a hard shot on goal in the 65th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. An unexpectedly hard shot by Tatu Laukkanen in the 70th minute of play forced AC Vaalimaa's goalkeeper Petri Vanhatalo to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 71st minute of the match, Tatu Laukkanen tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Petri Vanhatalo saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. The supporters of Tampere United booed when AC Vaalimaa was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 73 match minutes in a wonderful position. Eero Lönnblad didn't get a good kick on the ball. Miro Pyhältö showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ale Karalahti, who was totally free with the ball in the 79th minute. Tatu Laukkanen fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 85th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Petri Vanhatalo having to interfere. Tampere United's Tatu Laukkanen got a good chance for a goal in the 93rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Tampere United's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
