Brad Friedel made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Oleg Zlatarev in the 15th minute of play. Evgeni Kafedzhiyski could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 18th minute of the match, but Brad Friedel made a huge save. A hard shot by Damyan Hristodorov from long distance, 23 minutes into the match, got Brad Friedel's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. In the 24th match minute, Limonite was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Oleg Zlatarev to maneuver through the defense. Alan Shearer blasted a shot towards the goal in the 28th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Ilcho Hadzhihristov having to make a save. After a defensive mix-up in Limonite's zone, Alan Shearer stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Ilcho Hadzhihristov came out of the goal and Alan Shearer tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Oleg Zlatarev kicked well hit freekick during the 47th minute of the match. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 0-0 after a close first half.

The wind increased when Alan Shearer made the kick off in the second half.
