Southbourne
Spectators: 7975 (Terracing: 6000,
Seating: 1815, VIP seats: 160) Khai Tioe made the kick off and thus started the match. Darren Siong showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gabriel Hsin in the 3rd minute of the match. Darren Siong didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Khai Tioe went, in the 5th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Faiz Siang in the 9th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Darren Siong prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 11th minute Gabriel Hsin shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Darren Siong saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Gabriel Hsin came up free with the goalie in the 13th minute, the Malton fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Gabriel Hsin couldn't finish the play. In the 16th minute of the match Southbourne got a corner. Malton's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Rifki Siong ran over to the corner to take the kick. After taking down the ball on Southbourne's corner Rifki Siong fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Sean Sarangapani quite easily take care of the ball. Darren Siong showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gabriel Hsin in the 20th minute of the match. 22 minutes into the match, Southbourne's goal looked a bit too open when Gabriel Hsin came free, but Darren Siong reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 24 minutes into the match, Malton's goalkeeper Sean Sarangapani had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Alex Lee. In the 26th minute, Faiz Siang left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Malton fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-2. Through an outstanding action, after 31 minutes, Sean Sarangapani successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. Darren Siong showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Khai Tioe, who was totally free with the ball in the 35th minute. In the 39th minute Gabriel Hsin shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Darren Siong saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Darren Siong made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gabriel Hsin in the 41st minute of play. With an all-out effort, Southbourne's Sean Sarangapani threw himself towards the right post 45 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Rifki Siong, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Ong Boon recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 48th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.
The wind increased when Rifki Siong made the kick off in the second half. In the 52nd match minute, Malton was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ron Dryburgh to maneuver through the defense. Sean Sarangapani made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Alex Lee in the 54th minute of play. 55 minutes into the game, Samuel Chong was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Malton's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Southbourne the free kick. The supporters of Southbourne booed when Malton was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 55 match minutes in a wonderful position. Samuel Chong didn't get a good kick on the ball. Zafran Hock fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 62nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Sean Sarangapani having to interfere. In the 64th minute, Hamir Vijiaratnam ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Sean Sarangapani was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-2. 68 minutes into the game, Southbourne's Hamir Vijiaratnam nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Sean Sarangapani made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-2. Khai Tioe received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 75th minute. Darren Siong tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Sean Sarangapani made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Rifki Siong in the 77th minute of play. Sean Sarangapani showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Hamir Vijiaratnam, who was totally free with the ball in the 78th minute. Sean Sarangapani took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Alex Lee, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Malton's Sean Sarangapani played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Alex Lee in the 81st minute of play. Southbourne's goalkeeper couldn't reach when Gabriel Hsin 82 minutes into the game got a good kick on the ball which found its way into goal just inside left pole. 2-3. Sean Sarangapani showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Hamir Vijiaratnam, who was totally free with the ball in the 86th minute. Khai Tioe kicked well hit freekick during the 86th minute of the match. After a defensive mix-up in Southbourne's zone, Khai Tioe stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Darren Siong came out of the goal and Khai Tioe tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Southbourne were furious when Zafran Hock was red carded, 97 minutes into the game, but the referee dismissed their protests. The Malton supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Malton would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
