Brookong's Lawrance Leach was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Burns Deal in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. Birrell Mitchell fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 23rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Dallas Todman having to interfere. Burns Deal stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Myles Butterfield's shot from short distance in the 29th minute. Burns Deal showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Myles Butterfield, who was totally free with the ball in the 31st minute. Burns Deal took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Myles Butterfield, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Myles Butterfield's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Burns Deal read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 41st minute of play. If Birrell Mitchell had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 44th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.

The wind increased when Myles Butterfield made the kick off in the second half. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Bran Devere during the 54th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. When Payne Roach came up free with the goalie in the 75th minute, the Hawthorn FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Payne Roach couldn't finish the play. After 77 played minutes Hawthorn FC got a freekick which was hit by Brant Markcrow. An unexpectedly hard shot by Myles Butterfield in the 85th minute of play forced Hawthorn FC's goalkeeper Burns Deal to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Reese Holdsworth came up free with the goalie in the 97th minute, the Brookong fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Reese Holdsworth couldn't finish the play. When the referee blew the final whistle, you could see the dissatisfaction in the Brookong players' eyes. They were disappointed they hadn't taken more from the game.
