The supporters of Sydney Rockets booed when Backyard Football was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 7 match minutes in a wonderful position. Brooks Hollingworth didn't get a good kick on the ball. Best Mundine charged in rather forcefully in the 8th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Best Mundine the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 8th minute, Best Mundine hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Best Mundine sent away a hard shot on goal in the 10th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 13th minute, Brynn Rummens left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Sydney Rockets fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. Cregan Oshea sent away a hard shot on goal in the 18th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 22 minutes into the game, Jones Newton was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Backyard Football's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Sydney Rockets the free kick. In the 22nd match minute, Backyard Football was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jones Newton to maneuver through the defense. After recieving a nice pass, Sydney Rockets's Arnie Howie tried to score from far away in the 22nd minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. Best Mundine recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 25th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Brynn Rummens received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 26th minute. Bartholemew Gorham tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Cassidy Freel was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 28 minutes into the match. 28 minutes into the game, one of Backyard Football:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. Loud Wharton kicked well hit freekick during the 33rd minute of the match. Bartholemew Gorham stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Brynn Rummens's shot from short distance in the 38th minute. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Ed Garing stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 52ndth minute of the game Ed Garing who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Sydney Rockets's Jarrod Paddle was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. In the 54th minute Brynn Rummens shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Bartholemew Gorham saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Bartholemew Gorham made an important save on a dangerous shot by Best Mundine in the 55th minute. After 62 minutes, Ed Starling mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Backyard Football and the Sydney Rockets players grew even worse after the yellow card. Bartholemew Gorham acted impressively in front of the goal and made a superb save when he, in the 62nd minute, took the ball on the long shot from Arnie Howie. In the 66th minute, Sydney Rockets's Brynn Rummens dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 0-2. A collision led to Backyard Football getting a freekick after 70 minutes play. Brooks Hollingworth hit a great ball. 74 minutes into the game, Brynn Rummens lined in a short shot 0-3 behind a frustrated Bartholemew Gorham. Bartholemew Gorham was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Brynn Rummens showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 0-4 in the 81 minute of play. Loud Wharton's late challenge caught a Backyard Football's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Loud Wharton helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to Sydney Rockets getting a freekick after 87 minutes play. Loud Wharton hit a great ball. In the 90th minute, Ed Starling hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Arnie Howie took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 91st minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Bartholemew Gorham. Backyard Football's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Best Mundine received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 92nd minute. Bartholemew Gorham tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 93rd minute, Brynn Rummens got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. If Brynn Rummens had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 96th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
