Bankstown
Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000,
Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) The sun was shining, the grass was green and the audience cheered when Kirk Oreilly got the match started through his kick off. An unexpectedly hard shot by Evan Bowen in the 7th minute of play forced Bankstown's goalkeeper Doyle Cusbert to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 9th minute of the match Paco Alcock sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Cassidy Kuskoff skillfully saved the ball. Jarrett Hickman charged in rather forcefully in the 10th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Jarrett Hickman the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Kirk Oreilly hit a great freekick 13 minutes into the match. 15 minutes into the match, Bath Pears notched a goal, 0-2, to the right of Bankstown's Doyle Cusbert. Doyle Cusbert was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Doyle Cusbert came out of the goal in the 18th minute to try and stop a shot by Glenferrie's Björn Zimmerman. But to his dismay, Björn Zimmerman quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-3. Doyle Cusbert took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Bath Pears, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Doyle Cusbert showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Evan Bowen, who was totally free with the ball in the 23rd minute. In the 24th match minute, Glenferrie was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Fleming Inwood to maneuver through the defense. Paco Alcock struck a weak shot in the 26th minute. Cassidy Kuskoff didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Bankstown. In the 27th minute Aron Crawford shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Doyle Cusbert saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The audience was convinced that Evan Bowen's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Doyle Cusbert was relentless in the 29th minute of the game. In the 34th minute, Bath Pears ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Doyle Cusbert was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-4. 37 minutes into the game, Kirk Oreilly recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Cassidy Kuskoff. Kirk Oreilly showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 1-4. After some careless play in the Glenferrie defense, Pete Carbery kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Cassidy Kuskoff. The Glenferrie fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Cassidy Kuskoff should have stopped the shot. Doyle Cusbert showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Björn Zimmerman in the 48th minute of the match. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 2-4 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.
If Murphy Brotherton had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 52nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. After 53 minutes, Evan Bowen made it 2-5 with a short kick to the right side. Bankstown's Doyle Cusbert tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. After a rather tough play, Glenferrie's Fleming Inwood got a free kick in the 60th minute. Pete Carbery was in a good position and ended up with the ball after Bankstown's free kick, but he didn't get a good hit on the ball and blazed it high and to the right of the goal. If Björn Zimmerman had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 65th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Evan Bowen received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Doyle Cusbert came out and tried to block the shot, but Evan Bowen slotted it home off the left post making it 2-6 in the 66th minute. Kirk Oreilly sent away a hard shot on goal in the 71st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Pete Carbery had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 73rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 75th minute, Evan Bowen ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Doyle Cusbert was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-7. Jarrett Hickman fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 78th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Doyle Cusbert having to interfere. After 82 minutes of play, Glenferrie's Andrew Galvin made it 2-8 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Doyle Cusbert was left in no man's land by his defense there! Paco Alcock kicked well hit freekick during the 84th minute of the match. Doyle Cusbert made an important save on a dangerous shot by Evan Bowen in the 85th minute. When Kirk Oreilly came up free with the goalie in the 88th minute, the Bankstown fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Kirk Oreilly couldn't finish the play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Björn Zimmerman in the 92nd minute of play forced Bankstown's goalkeeper Doyle Cusbert to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Doyle Cusbert made a fantastic save in the 94th minute, when Evan Bowen sent off a good shot on target. Bath Pears's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Doyle Cusbert firmly grabbed it by the left post. Doyle Cusbert took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Evan Bowen, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Glenferrie's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
