With his leg Manuel Campens managed to avoid a goal in the 7thth minute, when USA's Nathaniel Burnett fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. USA's Matthew Benjamin played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Pino Verelst in the 8th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Billy Goolen in the 12th minute of play forced USA's goalkeeper Matthew Benjamin to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Manuel Campens made a fantastic save in the 13th minute, when Nathaniel Burnett sent off a good shot on target. In the 14th minute Billy Goolen shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Matthew Benjamin saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Billy Goolen in the 14th minute of play forced USA's goalkeeper Matthew Benjamin to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Manuel Campens made an important save on a dangerous shot by Werner Castillo in the 16th minute. USA's Matthew Benjamin played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Pino Verelst in the 18th minute of play. 28 minutes into the match, Belgium's goalkeeper Manuel Campens had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Nathaniel Burnett. After 29 minutes Belgium's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Werner Castillo who took care of the corner kick. Matthew Benjamin showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Billy Goolen in the 32nd minute of the match. USA's Matthew Benjamin played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Billy Goolen in the 34th minute of play. 36 minutes into the match, USA's goal looked a bit too open when Billy Goolen came free, but Matthew Benjamin reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Matthew Benjamin showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Encho Scifo, who was totally free with the ball in the 37th minute. USA's Tony Pacheco was substituted for Nathaniel Burnett. In the 46th minute the ball was on its way in behind USA's goalkeeper Matthew Benjamin, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After the first half Belgium were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

In the 52nd minute of the match Werner Castillo sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Manuel Campens skillfully saved the ball. 56 minutes into the match, USA's goal looked a bit too open when Encho Scifo came free, but Matthew Benjamin reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. A collision led to Belgium getting a freekick after 57 minutes play. Arthur Devos hit a great ball. Belgium's supporters crossed their fingers, but Encho Scifo was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 63rd minute, Donald Caldwell hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 66th match minute, USA was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Tony Pacheco to maneuver through the defense. USA made a substitution. Richard Whitman replaced Jim Morrison. A collision led to USA getting a freekick after 67 minutes play. Tony Pacheco hit a great ball. Matthew Benjamin made a fantastic save in the 90th minute, when Izak Lambrechts sent off a good shot on target. 95 minutes into the match, Jean-Louis Ouaddou notched a goal, 0-2, to the right of USA's Matthew Benjamin. Matthew Benjamin was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Belgium played a much better game than USA and deserved their victory. The USA players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
