An unexpectedly hard shot by Arthur Devos in the 9th minute of play forced Italy's goalkeeper Bruno Antognoni to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 11 minutes into the match, Italy's goalkeeper Bruno Antognoni had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Pino Verelst. Manuel Campens showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Bar Olo in the 40th minute of the match. Bruno Antognoni came out of the goal in the 41st minute to try and stop a shot by Belgium's Pino Verelst. But to his dismay, Pino Verelst quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-0. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Pino Verelst to make the kick off. A collision led to Italy getting a freekick after 51 minutes play. Dino Grilli hit a great ball. After 52 played minutes, Belgium's Ken Anthonis shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Bruno Antognoni came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Belgium reached it. Bruno Antognoni took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Pino Verelst, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The audience thought a goal was coming when Elia Scarinci got free with Manuel Campens in the 62nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Elia Scarinci's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Manuel Campens firmly grabbed it by the left post. Manuel Campens made an important save on a dangerous shot by Elia Scarinci in the 64th minute. Through an outstanding action, after 66 minutes, Manuel Campens successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. Manuel Campens showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Bar Olo in the 70th minute of the match. In the 72nd match minute, Belgium was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Encho Scifo to maneuver through the defense. Italy's Donato Zoccolo was substituted for Bar Olo. Italy's Enzo Luongo was substituted for Elia Scarinci. 78 minutes in the game, Donato Zoccolo dribbled his way through the penalty area and after maneuvering past an opponent, drilled a quick shot at the goal. The ball looked like it was going in, but it was hit a bit too hard and flew over the goal. 80 minutes into the match, Belgium's goal looked a bit too open when Donato Zoccolo came free, but Manuel Campens reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Bruno Antognoni didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Pino Verelst went, in the 84th minute, to the upper right corner, 3-0 was the resulting score. Belgium were awarded a corner in the 89th minute after Italy's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Ken Anthonis took the corner. A nice corner shot did that Ken Anthonis got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Bruno Antognoni quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save.
