Piara Peto had in the 35thth minute some difficulties stopping Venceslao Emesabel's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. When Iván Hurtado fell near the penalty area in the 35th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored U21 Ecuador's protests and gave Iván Hurtado a yellow card for diving instead. After 36 played minutes U21 Ecuador got a freekick which was hit by Iván Hurtado. An unexpected shot in the 45th minute by Enzo Peto got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. U21 Argentina's Aldo-Pedro Peto got a good chance for a goal in the 47th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. U21 Ecuador made a substitution. In the 88th minute, Esteban Peto hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 95 minutes into the game, one of U21 Ecuador:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. U21 Ecuador's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
