U21 Russia's Albert Bulychov was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Bernardo Arias in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. In the 23rd match minute, U21 Costa Rica was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Omar Guevara to maneuver through the defense. After some careless play in the U21 Costa Rica defense, Daniil Kondratiev kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Bernardo Arias. The U21 Costa Rica fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Bernardo Arias should have stopped the shot. Bernardo Arias made a fantastic save in the 27th minute, when Lev Pakhomov sent off a good shot on target. Alfonso Mejias struck a weak shot in the 29th minute. Afanasiy Malitikov didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for U21 Costa Rica. An unexpectedly hard shot by Lev Pakhomov in the 33rd minute of play forced U21 Costa Rica's goalkeeper Bernardo Arias to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The supporters of U21 Russia booed when U21 Costa Rica was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 40 match minutes in a wonderful position. Tiro Bueno didn't get a good kick on the ball. Denis Kolodin charged in rather forcefully in the 41st minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Denis Kolodin the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Tiro Bueno was shown his second yellow card after 44 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. Tiro Bueno kicked well hit freekick during the 44th minute of the match. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Daniil Kondratiev to make the kick off. If Daniil Kondratiev had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 51st minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. 51 minutes into the match, U21 Costa Rica's goal looked a bit too open when Daniil Kondratiev came free, but Bernardo Arias reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When U21 Costa Rica's Leopoldo Kamakiri in 57 game minutes managed to cut through with the ball in front of the goal, only having to shoot. Afanasiy Malitikov guarding the goal like a pit bull was extremely focused and managed to reach the ball just by the crossbar before it went in. U21 Costa Rica's Minor Godinez was substituted for Vinicio Medina. After a rather tough play, U21 Russia's Arkadiy Medved got a free kick in the 66th minute. Daniil Kondratiev sent away a hard shot on goal in the 69th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Minor Godinez recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 72nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. U21 Russia made a substitution. Oleg Lapikov replaced Lev Pakhomov. U21 Russia's Afanasiy Malitikov proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 74th minute of the match, managed to save U21 Russia from getting a goal against them. Bernardo Arias showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Oleg Lapikov in the 76th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Daniil Kondratiev in the 80th minute of play forced U21 Costa Rica's goalkeeper Bernardo Arias to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Alfonso Leon kicked well hit freekick during the 83rd minute of the match. 88 minutes into the game, U21 Russia's Oleg Lapikov nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Bernardo Arias made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 3-0.
