In the 5th minute Miklós Gervai shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Lucas Loaiza saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 8 minutes into the match, Miklós Gervai had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Lucas Loaiza. Costa Rica's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Miklós Gervai was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-0. Lucas Loaiza was a little too slow when Miklós Gervai got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 13th minute. The score was now 2-0. Arnold Szuper took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Antonio Orozco, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Hungary's Arnold Szuper played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Antonio Orozco in the 18th minute of play. Lucas Loaiza came out of the goal in the 20th minute to try and stop a shot by Hungary's Miklós Gervai. But to his dismay, Miklós Gervai quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 3-0. Lucas Loaiza made a fantastic save in the 31st minute, when Miklós Gervai sent off a good shot on target. In the 34th minute, Miklós Gervai left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Hungary fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 4-0. Miklós Gervai sent away a hard shot on goal in the 43rd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Miklós Gervai fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 47th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Lucas Loaiza having to interfere.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Reiner Fallas stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Costa Rica's Lucas Loaiza played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Miklós Gervai in the 53rd minute of play. Miklós Gervai recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 55th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Mátyás Zakariás in the 59th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Lucas Loaiza prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 60th minute, Otton Elizondo hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Miklós Gervai scored 6-0 in the 62nd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Lucas Loaiza, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Costa Rica's Wilbert Montoya was substituted for Felipe Palacios. In the 69th minute, Miklós Gervai made a precise shot to the right of Lucas Loaiza. Costa Rica's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 7-0. In the 71st minute, Otton Elizondo hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 74th minute Johan Loria shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Arnold Szuper saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Lucas Loaiza showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Mátyás Zakariás in the 82nd minute of the match. In the 89th minute Miklós Gervai shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Lucas Loaiza saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Miklós Gervai's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Lucas Loaiza read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 90th minute of play. Miklós Barabás didn't quite understand what happened when in the 98 minute of the game managed to get a great opportunity for a goal and then missed the goal by a feet. For all the effort they put into the match, the Costa Rica players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for Hungary.
