Match Report

National Stadium
Spectators: 10301 (Terracing: 7726, Seating: 2369, VIP seats: 206)
U21 Chile's Hernán Torrejón started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. 4 minutes into the match, Eugenio De Bettin notched a goal, 1-0, to the right of U21 Chile's Fernán Moyano. Fernán Moyano was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Weena Soccio sent away a hard shot on goal in the 15th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Dario Palombi kicked well hit freekick during the 18th minute of the match. Fernán Moyano showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Eugenio De Bettin, who was totally free with the ball in the 21st minute. Ermanno Pardini took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Esequiel Dohrmann, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 1-1 became the score in the 28th minute when Hernán Torrejón elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. The audience was convinced that Eugenio De Bettin's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Fernán Moyano was relentless in the 38th minute of the game. Fernán Moyano made an important save on a dangerous shot by Arrigo Riso in the 45th minute. Mauro Maas charged in rather forcefully in the 47th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Mauro Maas the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Mauro Maas hit a great freekick 47 minutes into the match. A collision led to U21 Chile getting a freekick after 48 minutes play. Mauro Maas hit a great ball. Fernán Moyano took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Arrigo Riso, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Eugenio De Bettin stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Fernán Moyano didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Eugenio De Bettin went, in the 57th minute, to the upper right corner, 2-1 was the resulting score. After a rather tough play, U21 Chile's Elías Torrejón got a free kick in the 64th minute. U21 Italy's Peppe Mascara was substituted for Eugenio De Bettin. In the 66th match minute, U21 Chile was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Elías Torrejón to maneuver through the defense. In the 67th minute of the match Arrigo Riso sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Fernán Moyano skillfully saved the ball. 68 minutes into the match, Peppe Mascara had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Fernán Moyano. U21 Chile's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Peppe Mascara was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 3-1. Hernán Torrejón could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 73rd minute of the match, but Ermanno Pardini made a huge save. After 74 minutes U21 Italy's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Augusto Pirinchev who took care of the corner kick. In the 75th minute Esequiel Dohrmann shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ermanno Pardini saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Augusto Pirinchev scored 4-2 in the 86th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Ermanno Pardini, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Esequiel Dohrmann recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 88th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Orlín Osorio during the 92nd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 93rd minute, Orlín Osorio hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Fernán Moyano took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Peppe Mascara, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. U21 Italy's goalkeeper couldn't reach when Hernán Torrejón 96 minutes into the game got a good kick on the ball which found its way into goal just inside left pole. 4-3. U21 Chile's supporters were dissatisfied at the end of the match because U21 Italy had won, even though U21 Chile had held more of the ball.
