Afonso Sisquella showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Kleber Julio in the 13th minute of the match. Zilar Oro took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Admon Zayas, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The audience was convinced that Kleber Julio's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Afonso Sisquella was relentless in the 22nd minute of the game. Ecuador's Zilar Oro played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Frasquito Abella in the 27th minute of play. 28 minutes into the match, Uruguay's goal looked a bit too open when Gary Holt came free, but Afonso Sisquella reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Dominguez Juez in the 51st managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Afonso Sisquella saved Uruguay from getting behind. In the 61stth minute of the game Admon Zayas who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Ecuador's Zilar Oro was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Xavies Loza sent away a hard shot on goal in the 64th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Ecuador's Zilar Oro proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 70th minute of the match, managed to save Ecuador from getting a goal against them. Uruguay made a substitution. Alen Boksic replaced Admon Zayas. After 73 minutes Ecuador's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Frasquito Abella who took care of the corner kick. The corner led Uruguay's Indartsu Cagide to fire away a dangerous shot which Zilar Oro despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. A sloppy throw-in by Julio Montero Castillo in the 94th minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by Ecuador's Xavies Loza. Alen Boksic received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 96th minute. Zilar Oro tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The whistle blew for the end of the second half and the match was still tied. The players were able to take a short break before lining up again for extra-time.

With new strength the players walked out on the field for the first half of overtime. Alen Boksic in Uruguay was the one to initiate the kick off. 101 minutes into the match, Uruguay's Alen Boksic sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Zilar Oro narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Afonso Sisquella was left in no man's land by his defense there! The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Ecuador fans cheered their team off the field, for while Uruguay had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
