The audience thought a goal was coming when Francisco Mesa got free with Dzemail Filovski in the 13th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Alexander Rosales made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Argjend Nevenovski in the 18th minute of play. Francisco Mesa could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 19th minute of the match, but Dzemail Filovski made a huge save. 20 minutes into the match, Costa Rica's goal looked a bit too open when Menduh Temelkov came free, but Alexander Rosales reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Dzemail Filovski didn't succeed to prevent the ball from going into goal when Costa Rica's Otto Peralta shot an unexpected shot in the crossbar's under edge and made 1-1 in the ordered_time% minute. In the 28th minute, Menduh Temelkov got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. But to his dismay, Francisco Mesa quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-1. With his leg Dzemail Filovski managed to avoid a goal in the 35thth minute, when Costa Rica's Otto Peralta fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Alexander Rosales showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Miron Bizi in the 36th minute of the match. After a rather tough play, Macedonia's Argjend Nevenovski got a free kick in the 37th minute. Macedonia's Dzemail Filovski played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Otoniel Umaña in the 40th minute of play. The crowd rose to their feet as Costa Rica's Otto Peralta slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Dzemail Filovski. That made the score 3-1 after 43 minutes of play. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Menduh Temelkov in the 46th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Alexander Rosales prevented the ball from getting in the gole. The supporters of Costa Rica booed when Macedonia was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 47 match minutes in a wonderful position. Menduh Temelkov didn't get a good kick on the ball. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 3-1 at half-time.

Dzemail Filovski was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. 65 minutes into the match, Argjend Nevenovski had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Alexander Rosales. Costa Rica's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Argjend Nevenovski was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 4-2. Menduh Temelkov could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 67th minute of the match, but Alexander Rosales made a huge save. In the 69th minute of the match Nicolas Contreras sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Dzemail Filovski skillfully saved the ball. Alexander Rosales made a fantastic save in the 78th minute, when Menduh Temelkov sent off a good shot on target. 79 minutes into the match, Macedonia's goal looked a bit too open when Otto Peralta came free, but Dzemail Filovski reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Menduh Temelkov might have been able to make a better finish in the 84th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Alexander Rosales. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Menduh Temelkov ran back to his position shaking his head. Costa Rica's Rolando Fonseca was substituted for Francisco Mesa. Costa Rica made a substitution. Andrei Sanabria replaced Otoniel Umaña. A collision led to Macedonia getting a freekick after 87 minutes play. Ivo Mojsiev hit a great ball. Rolando Fonseca sent away a hard shot on goal in the 94th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Dzemail Filovski made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Eladio Soto in the 96th minute of play. Macedonia's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
