Spectators: 10305 (Terracing: 7729, Seating: 2370, VIP seats: 206) The sun was shining, the grass was green and the audience cheered when Benjamin Ülger got the match started through his kick off. U21 Sweden were awarded a corner in the 5th minute after U21 Costa Rica's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Karl Bollström took the corner. U21 Costa Rica's Nestor Villalobos played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Per-Åke Browald in the 10th minute of play. In the 11th minute, Per-Åke Browald got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 13 minutes into the match, U21 Sweden's goalkeeper Leif Berglund had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Alberto Serrano. If Sören Edström had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 15th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The supporters of U21 Costa Rica booed when U21 Sweden was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 16 match minutes in a wonderful position. Karl Bollström didn't get a good kick on the ball. U21 Sweden's Leif Berglund proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 17th minute of the match, managed to save U21 Sweden from getting a goal against them. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Per-Åke Browald in the 19th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Nestor Villalobos saved U21 Costa Rica from getting behind. U21 Sweden were awarded a corner in the 20th minute after U21 Costa Rica's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Karl Bollström took the corner. In the 22nd match minute, U21 Sweden was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Orvar Bammerman to maneuver through the defense. After a rather tough play, U21 Costa Rica's Keilor Jara got a free kick in the 23rd minute. In the 24th match minute, U21 Costa Rica was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Emmanuel Arias to maneuver through the defense. Karl Bollström fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 25th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nestor Villalobos having to interfere. In the 28th minute U21 Sweden were awarded a corner. Karl Bollström went to the cornerflag to take it. 30 minutes into the match, Per-Åke Browald had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Nestor Villalobos. U21 Costa Rica's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Per-Åke Browald was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-2. Nestor Villalobos took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Benjamin Ülger, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Nestor Villalobos came out of the goal in the 37th minute to try and stop a shot by U21 Sweden's Benjamin Ülger. But to his dismay, Benjamin Ülger quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-3. Per-Åke Browald recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 40th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The supporters of U21 Sweden booed when U21 Costa Rica was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 41 match minutes in a wonderful position. Keilor Jara didn't get a good kick on the ball. 42 minutes into the match, Benjamin Ülger had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Nestor Villalobos. U21 Costa Rica's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Benjamin Ülger was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-4. After a defensive mix-up in U21 Costa Rica's zone, Orvar Bammerman stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Nestor Villalobos came out of the goal and Orvar Bammerman tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-4 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Alberto Serrano was the one to do the kick off. 53 minutes into the match, Alberto Serrano notched a goal, 1-4, to the right of U21 Sweden's Leif Berglund. Leif Berglund was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. After a rather tough play, U21 Costa Rica's Emmanuel Arias got a free kick in the 55th minute. In the 58th minute Keilor Jara shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Leif Berglund saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 62ndth minute of the game Benjamin Ülger who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but U21 Costa Rica's Nestor Villalobos was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Nestor Villalobos showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Benjamin Ülger in the 66th minute of the match. Karl Bollström kicked well hit freekick during the 73rd minute of the match. U21 Sweden made a substitution. Jörgen Henriksson replaced Per-Åke Browald. Karl Bollström hit a great freekick 75 minutes into the match. In the 80th minute, U21 Sweden's Bo Söderqwist dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 1-6. In the 84th minute Alvin Millot shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Leif Berglund saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Nestor Villalobos came out of the goal in the 85th minute to try and stop a shot by U21 Sweden's Bo Söderqwist. But to his dismay, Bo Söderqwist quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-7. 91 minutes into the game, Jörgen Henriksson cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-8. Nestor Villalobos was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Nestor Villalobos showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Bo Söderqwist, who was totally free with the ball in the 94th minute.
