Spectators: 10300 (Terracing: 7725, Seating: 2369, VIP seats: 206) Latvia's Aleksandrs Kurbads started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Aleksandrs Kurbads took the ball and in the 3 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Richárd Simon. Richárd Simon dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-1. Che Guevara received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Miķelis Somass came out and tried to block the shot, but Che Guevara slotted it home off the left post making it 1-1 in the 5th minute. 9 minutes into the match, Hungary's goal looked a bit too open when Aivars Rudzis came free, but Richárd Simon reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 11 minutes into the match, Hungary's Ákos Lévai sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Miķelis Somass narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Hungary's Richárd Simon played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Valentīns Rumanis in the 13th minute of play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Ákos Lévai got free with Miķelis Somass in the 17th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. With an all-out effort, Hungary's Miķelis Somass threw himself towards the right post 18 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Ferenc Kovács, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. If Valentīns Rumanis had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 25th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Che Guevara was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 27th minute. Hungary's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. Miķelis Somass had great luck who in the 31stth minute grab hold of the ball when Lajos Balázs from a short distance tried to put the ball inside the right post. 32 minutes had been played when some careless play by Latvia's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. András Kalmár was slow to take the kick. During this time Hungary's players had a chance to rest. Ákos Lévai made a great header on Hungary's corner, it was just that Latvia's Miķelis Somass managed to reach the ball for a save. With an all-out effort, Hungary's Miķelis Somass threw himself towards the right post 35 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Che Guevara, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. After 42 played minutes Hungary got a freekick which was hit by András Kalmár. In the 44th minute Valentīns Rumanis shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Richárd Simon saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When the match clock showed 45 minutes, the score became 1-2 when Aleksandrs Kurbads sped through Hungary's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Richárd Simon. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 1-2.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Ákos Lévai to strike the kick off in the second half. Miķelis Somass made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Che Guevara in the 53rd minute of play. In the 54th match minute, Hungary was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ákos Bósa to maneuver through the defense. Valentīns Rumanis could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 55th minute of the match, but Richárd Simon made a huge save. Miķelis Somass made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Che Guevara in the 57th minute of play. Richárd Simon was a little too slow when Aivars Rudzis got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 62nd minute. The score was now 1-3. Miķelis Somass took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ákos Lévai, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Hungary made a substitution. Ábel Kozák replaced Márton Imre. 77 minutes into the match, Latvia's goal looked a bit too open when Lajos Balázs came free, but Miķelis Somass reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Valentīns Rumanis's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Richárd Simon firmly grabbed it by the left post. Miķelis Somass made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Kristóf Polyák in the 83rd minute of play. After 84 played minutes Latvia got a freekick which was hit by Aleksandrs Kurbads. The corner led to Hungary's Kristóf Polyák getting away a dangerous shot that went just outside the goal. In the 92nd minute Kristóf Polyák shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Miķelis Somass saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Latvia had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
