U21 Greece's Orestis Karnezis proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 8th minute of the match, managed to save U21 Greece from getting a goal against them. In the 9th minute, Nerino Castillo got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Orestis Karnezis made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Basilio Viator in the 12th minute of play. In the 13th minute U21 Argentina were awarded a corner. Faustino Savion went to the cornerflag to take it. The corner led U21 Argentina's Faustino Savion to fire away a dangerous shot which Orestis Karnezis despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. In the 15th minute Nerino Castillo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jonathan Salvatore saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 17 minutes into the game, Alejo Salamon cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-0. Orestis Karnezis was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. The audience was convinced that Nerino Castillo's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Jonathan Salvatore was relentless in the 20th minute of the game. Jonathan Salvatore had in the 39thth minute some difficulties stopping Argyris Charalambakis's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. In the 39th minute, Argyris Charalambakis made a precise shot to the right of Jonathan Salvatore. U21 Argentina's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-2. Jonathan Salvatore took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Nerino Castillo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Disappointed in the 1-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The supporters of U21 Greece booed when U21 Argentina was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 51 match minutes in a wonderful position. Cosme Soin didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 54th match minute, U21 Argentina was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Alejo Salamon to maneuver through the defense. In the 67thth minute of the game Panagiotis Mavroidis who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but U21 Argentina's Jonathan Salvatore was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Jonathan Salvatore made a fantastic save in the 71st minute, when Kostas Stavroulis sent off a good shot on target. Panagiotis Mavroidis who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 73rdth minute tested the skills of Jonathan Salvatore when he managed to save the team from getting behind. After 74 played minutes U21 Argentina got a freekick which was hit by Faustino Savion. U21 Argentina's Nicasio Pacho was substituted for Adolfo Joachim. Tilemachos Spyroulis was slow to take the kick. During this time U21 Greece's players had a chance to rest. A nice corner shot did that Tilemachos Spyroulis got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Jonathan Salvatore quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. After 95 minutes, Marios Margaritas mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the U21 Greece and the U21 Argentina players grew even worse after the yellow card. Faustino Savion, 96 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal.
