Filomeno Bittor walked up to take care of the penalty kick. He was aiming for the top corner, but the ball went just outside the post. After 42 minutes U21 Iceland's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Ruperto Efraim who took care of the corner kick. The corner led U21 Argentina's Ruperto Efraim to fire away a dangerous shot which Wilhelm Ófeigsson despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. Dvalinn Pétursson hit a great freekick 46 minutes into the match. The score stood at 0-0 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Gunnlaugur Valdimarsson was the one to do the kick off. Wilhelm Ófeigsson didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Denis Santos went, in the 51st minute, to the upper right corner, 1-0 was the resulting score. U21 Argentina's Juan Carlos Olave played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Rósmundur Kristbjörnsson in the 59th minute of play. Juan Carlos Olave took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Rósmundur Kristbjörnsson, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Wilhelm Ófeigsson showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Denis Santos in the 65th minute of the match. After 67 minutes, Esjar Greipsson mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the U21 Iceland and the U21 Argentina players grew even worse after the yellow card. U21 Argentina's Christian Eriksen was substituted for Dante Onbera. U21 Argentina's Aquiles Gana was substituted for Denis Santos. After 69 played minutes U21 Iceland got a freekick which was hit by Esjar Greipsson. Aquiles Gana struck a weak shot in the 70th minute. Wilhelm Ófeigsson didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for U21 Argentina. U21 Argentina's Juan Carlos Olave proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 75th minute of the match, managed to save U21 Argentina from getting a goal against them. Gunnlaugur Valdimarsson who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 75thth minute tested the skills of Juan Carlos Olave when he managed to save the team from getting behind. 80 minutes into the game, U21 Argentina's Aquiles Gana nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Wilhelm Ófeigsson made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-0. 85 minutes into the match, Aquiles Gana notched a goal, 3-0, to the right of U21 Iceland's Wilhelm Ófeigsson. Wilhelm Ófeigsson was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Aquiles Gana might have been able to make a better finish in the 88th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Wilhelm Ófeigsson. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Aquiles Gana ran back to his position shaking his head. If Aquiles Gana had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 90th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Wilhelm Ófeigsson took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Aquiles Gana, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. U21 Iceland's Wilhelm Ófeigsson played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Aquiles Gana in the 93rd minute of play. The crowd rose to their feet and cheered when the referee blew the final whistle. U21 Argentina had won after a very even match.
