Ortle Soporta showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Afonso Antunes, who was totally free with the ball in the 16th minute. After a rather tough play, Portugal's Rodrigo Guarda got a free kick in the 17th minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 22nd minute, Iliana Gorostieta managed to get in a good position for a shot. Uruguay's supporters rose to their feet, but Iliana Gorostieta was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Vítor Carneiro breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 30th minute Jorge Daniel shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ortle Soporta saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 32nd minute Iliana Gorostieta shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Vítor Carneiro saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 40 minutes into the match, Uruguay's Benicio Montalvo sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Vítor Carneiro narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Sebastiano Barrachina was slow to take the kick. During this time Uruguay's players had a chance to rest. The corner led Uruguay's Sebastiano Barrachina to fire away a dangerous shot which Vítor Carneiro despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball.

The wind increased when Jorge Daniel made the kick off in the second half. Iliana Gorostieta might have been able to make a better finish in the 51st minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Vítor Carneiro. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Iliana Gorostieta ran back to his position shaking his head. Vítor Carneiro showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Benicio Montalvo in the 53rd minute of the match. The supporters of Uruguay booed when Portugal was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 53 match minutes in a wonderful position. Gil Valente didn't get a good kick on the ball. Thanks to some nice moves Afonso Antunes could shoot a difficult shot in the 55th minute, which Ortle Soporta however easily saved by the left post. When the match had gone on for 59 minutes, Afonso Antunes took a quick shot and it went in 1-1 without a chance for Ortle Soporta to make any attempt to save it. Jorge Daniel fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 66th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ortle Soporta having to interfere. Uruguay's Pau Lombraña was substituted for Benicio Montalvo. After a rather tough play, Uruguay's Damaso Caseda got a free kick in the 68th minute. Afonso Antunes could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 70th minute of the match, but Ortle Soporta made a huge save. Uruguay's Omero Lezarreta was substituted for Manilan Arzumendi. In the 76th minute, Pau Lombraña ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Vítor Carneiro was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-1. Pau Lombraña's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Vítor Carneiro read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 78th minute of play. Ortle Soporta showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Afonso Antunes in the 81st minute of the match. Lourenço Vaz took the ball and in the 86 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Ortle Soporta. Ortle Soporta dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-2. Jeers came from both ends of the stadium when the final whistle went. Neither team had looked impressive and the draw seeemd a fair result.
