To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. When Rolland Winters came up free with the goalie in the 7th minute, the U21 United States fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Rolland Winters couldn't finish the play. Steven Rosenstolz made a fantastic save in the 10th minute, when Joshua Wyatt sent off a good shot on target. U21 United States's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Genaro Martin in the 12th minute. The corner ended in Genaro Martin almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but U21 Austria's Steven Rosenstolz did a great save. In the 14th minute Joshua Wyatt shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Steven Rosenstolz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 40th match minute, U21 Austria was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ralf-Willy Thömmes to maneuver through the defense. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Joshua Wyatt in the 42nd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Steven Rosenstolz prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 44th match minute, U21 United States was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Kory Dupree to maneuver through the defense. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-0.

The wind increased when Bernabel Lugebiel made the kick off in the second half. A collision led to U21 Austria getting a freekick after 53 minutes play. Bernabel Lugebiel hit a great ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Bernabel Lugebiel got free with Orville Howell in the 56th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 57 minutes into the match, U21 United States's goal looked a bit too open when Christian Schwein came free, but Orville Howell reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 58th minute, Steve Winnerl hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. U21 Austria's Tobias Vanek was substituted for Bernabel Lugebiel. Steven Rosenstolz didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Claude Park went, in the 61st minute, to the upper right corner, 3-0 was the resulting score. Rolland Winters sent away a hard shot on goal in the 64th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 66th minute of the match, Tobias Vanek got a very nice opportunity to score, but Orville Howell was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. Genaro Martin made a great header on U21 United States's corner, it was just that U21 Austria's Steven Rosenstolz managed to reach the ball for a save. Tin Tin recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 70th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 76th minute Christian Schwein shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Orville Howell saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Thanks to some nice moves Tobias Vanek could shoot a difficult shot in the 77th minute, which Orville Howell however easily saved by the left post. After having played for 79 minutes, Tobias Vanek managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. U21 Austria's supporters crossed their fingers, but Tobias Vanek was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. U21 United States's Rodrigo Tang was substituted for Joshua Wyatt. U21 Austria's Steven Rosenstolz played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Bennett Westbrook in the 85th minute of play. In the 87th minute of the match U21 United States got a corner. U21 Austria's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Genaro Martin ran over to the corner to take the kick. A nice corner shot did that Genaro Martin got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Steven Rosenstolz quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. An unexpectedly hard shot by Bennett Westbrook in the 88th minute of play forced U21 Austria's goalkeeper Steven Rosenstolz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 89thth minute of the game Bennett Westbrook who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but U21 Austria's Steven Rosenstolz was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. 93 minutes into the game, Dominik Borke was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. U21 Austria's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave U21 United States the free kick. A collision led to U21 Austria getting a freekick after 93 minutes play.
