With an extended leg and a bit of luck Confesor Dicastillo prevented the ball from getting in the gole. 32 minutes into the match, Paraguay's goal looked a bit too open when Anatole Travis came free, but Confesor Dicastillo reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After having played for 39 minutes, Blaise Patry managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Canada's supporters crossed their fingers, but Blaise Patry was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Roderigo Llacin during the 43rd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Che Escobedo might have been able to make a better finish in the 49th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Omer Norman. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Che Escobedo ran back to his position shaking his head. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Anatole Travis to make the kick off. 52 minutes into the match, Canada's goalkeeper Omer Norman had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Ceferino Butron. Paraguay's Ceferino Butron managed to work through Canada's defense and was going for an easy goal, but he hit the shot with his toe and the ball flew outside the goal. In the 62nd minute Anatole Travis shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Confesor Dicastillo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Omer Norman made a fantastic save in the 78th minute, when Freddy Torrascasana sent off a good shot on target. If Anatole Travis had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 80th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
