Marius Buzoianu's late challenge caught a U21 Czech Republic's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. After a defensive mix-up in U21 Romania's zone, Ivo Toth stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Mihai Pătrășconiu came out of the goal and Ivo Toth tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After a rather tough play, U21 Czech Republic's Šimon Martínek got a free kick in the 38th minute. Mugurel Banica's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Vavřinec Šeděnka read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 40th minute of play. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

Mihai Pătrășconiu was left in no man's land by his defense there! U21 Czech Republic were awarded a corner in the 91th minute after U21 Romania's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Rudolf Skácel took the corner. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Mugurel Banica in the 95th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Vavřinec Šeděnka prevented the ball from getting in the gole. There was no doubt that U21 Czech Republic were the better team. U21 Czech Republic's players enjoyed the ovations of the crowd after the victory.
