Giuseppe Xiong hit a great freekick 22 minutes into the match. Emanuel Bazinet made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Antônio Carlos Baiano in the 26th minute of play. In the 29th minute, Terrence Naquin got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 31 minutes into the match, Sport Lisboa e Benfica's Antoine Norton sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Virgílio Freitas narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Sport Lisboa e Benfica's Shaun Wang was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Virgílio Freitas in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. José Paulo Saraiva made in the 70th minute of the game a throw-in that took a bad bounce and was taken care of by Sport Lisboa e Benfica's Art Solomon. Virgílio Freitas took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Antoine Norton, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The supporters of Sport Lisboa e Benfica booed when ♞Sir Galahad FC♞ was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 73 match minutes in a wonderful position.
